5 things to see is a must on the Island of Noirmoutier

The Medieval Castle

Built at the end of the 12th century, the medieval castle is a fortified castle located on the island of Noirmoutier in the department of Vendée. This impressive castle is listed in the prestigious list of Historic Monuments. One of the best preserved in the Great West, the medieval castle is composed of a perimeter wall with round path. This architecture forms a quadrangle of nearly 100 m by 50 m, flanked at the corners of two towers and two stilts surrounding the central dungeon.

The Wood of the Chair

If you still wonder what to see in Noirmoutier, take a tour of the Bois de la Chaise. The ranking of this site has been done since 1936. The Bois de la Chaise is a site that stretches over ten hectares and borders beaches of more than 2 km. Located northeast of Noirmoutier, the Bois de la Chaise represents to this day a true paradise in miniature. It stands out through its rich and lush vegetation composed of holm oaks, arbousiers, maritime pines and mimosas. The Wood of the Chair is home to wonders such as: the beach of the Ladies, the tip of Saint Pierre, the lighthouse of the Red Cove, the Souzeaux and the family beach of Sableaux.

The marina

Located at the extreme northwestern tip of the island, the Cove de l’Herbaudière has long served as a shelter for the pilot boats at the entrance to the Loire. Later, at the request of the Nantes Chamber of Commerce, he had a first pier in 1869 and a second in 1950 that gave birth to the port of herbaudière. This marina offers many offers (mooring on dung, buoys, clean tips, etc.) to boaters. It is a central port of the Atlantic Islands and the gateway to the island of Noirmoutier.

Salt marshes

What to do in the Vendée? The answer to this question lies in the salt marshes. Indeed, salt marsh tours are offered by the salt trees on the installations from June until September. On this site, 100% natural salt is harvested by hand. Note that in the first place, the salt marshes of Noirmoutier covered a large part of the island.
